Patagonia Ultralight Down Hoody Review

Back to Gear Reviews

Chelsea: "I own many Patagonia garments, but the Ultralight Down Hoody was the first one I purchased for myself. No other outdoor clothing company impresses me more than Patagonia, from quality of gear to mission statement. When I was researching the Ultralight Down Hoody, I wanted something super warm, layerable, durable, and packable. The 800-fill-power goose down Ultralight Hoody is all of those.

The light-weight fabric appears super thin but can definitely take a beating. Patagonia gives it a Deluge DWR (durable water repellent) finish, and I've definitely had it work well solo in light rain/snow. I bike-commuted all winter in Montana in this jacket and then used it frequently on Arguk, but it's barely shed any down and it's never gotten ripped. The hood has a funny drawstring, but once you figure it out it works well (just looks a bit strange). I like the way Patagonia designs their sleeves plenty long, so my wrists are never bare. On Expedition Arguk, this was a great camp jacket after a long day of hiking or packrafting in changing conditions. Towards the end of the trip I used it a bit while on the water under my waterproof layer for extra warmth."
